It is situated around 10 kms from Sirkazhi . There are buses from Mayavaram/ Sirkazhi that goes past Thirunangur . Direct special buses are available only on special occassions . If you drive your car it is 20 kms from Mayavaram and 10 kms from Sirkazhi .The temple is located in the holy town of Sirkazhi in Nagapattinam district . Thirumangai Azhvar was initiated by Saiva Kuravar Sambandar to praise the Almighty through Pasurams . The God in the temple is praised as Mann alantha Tadalan meaning the one who measured the land . The name Tadalan is in honour of Tiruvikrama ( Vamana ) form and the moolavar ( prime deity ) fixed in the central shrine is in this form . The presiding deity , Thiruvikrama , appeared for sage Ashtakoma .
Kazheesirama Vinnagarsm or Thadalan Kovil or Thirivikrama Narayana Perumal Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu located in Sirkazhi in Nagapattinam district, Tamilnadu, India. It is one of the “Divya Desams”, the 108 temples of Vishnu revered by the 12 poet saints , or Alwars . The temple follows Thenkalai mode of worship . The God in the temple is praised as Man alantha Thadalan meaning the one who measured the land . The name Thadalan is in honour of Thiruvikrama form and the Moolavar (prime deity) fixed in the central shrine is in this form . The presiding deity , Thiruvikrama , appeared for sage Ashtakona Rishi .
This is one of the five Divya Desams referred by Thirumangai Azhvaar as ” Vinnagaram ” . The others being Parameswara Vinnagaram ( Kanchipuram ), Arimeya Vinnagara ( Thiru Nangoor ), Vaikunta Vinnagaram ( Thiru Nangoor ) and Nandipura Vinnagaram ( Nathan Koil , Kumbakonam ) . Another feature of Thirumangai’s praise of this Divya Desam is his reference to the Goddess in his Paasurams . Mangai Mannan crowned as “Mangai Azhvaar” and handed over the Vel by Thiru Gnana Sambandhar . The temple is administered by Chola Simhapuram Koil Kanthaadai Chantamaarutham Swami Dhoddayacharyar .
Lord Brahmma the creator grew proud of his boon of longevity spanning many Yugas . Lord Vishnu decided to teach him a lesson . Sage Romesa performed penance here for the darshan of Lord Vamana – Trivikrama form scaling the whole world with one foot up . Granting his wish , Lord told the sage that he would live longer than Brahmma whose longevity would be reduced by a year if and when one hair fell from his body .
Brahma understood that Lord has indirectly taught him a lesson and shed his pride. Thus Lord graced this place with his Trivikrama form. This is said to be the place where Lord Vishnu in his Vaamana Avatara measured his first step. At this Divya Desam, only the left foot of the Lord can be seen every day. The right foot is displayed only once a year on the Vaikunta Ekadesi day.
The Sangu which yields Paramapadham and Chakram which gives all wealth lays here as Shangu Pushkarani and Chakra Theertham.
The term Rama is equivalent to number one for he had one wife, one arrow, one word, one rule and one dharma. As the perumal of this place too is the only ruler of the whole world this place is called Sri Rama Vinnagaram .
Thal in Tamil means Earth or World, Aalan means the ruler. As Lord scaled the world with his Foot , Sri Andal called him Thadalan. The verses of Sri Andal are pieces of delight with sweet melody of Tamil coupled with their spiritual content .
Sirkali has the special reputation of being the birth place of Saivite Saint Tirugnanasambandar.
Once the temple was left without proper care , hence an old woman kept the procession deity Thadalan inside the Thavittu (husk) pot . She performed poojas and was worshipping him . After visiting Thiru Chitra Koodam ( Chidambaram ) , Thirumangai Mannan was on his way to Sirkazhi . All the way his subjects sang praise of him uttering different names of Mangai Mannan . The praise of Thirumangai Mannan by his subjects angered the disciples of Thiru Gnana Sambandhar. They blocked Thirumangai Mannan and asked his followers not to shout praises of Thiru Mangai Mannan in this birthplace of Thiru Gnana Sambandhar.
They wanted Thirumangai Mannan to engage with Thiru Gnana Sambandhar in a debate and win over him before continuing with their praise of Thirumangai Mannan . In the dream of Alwar , Lord appeared and told him that to get Thadalan from the old woman , pray to him and after that go for the debate . In the first meeting between Thiru Mangai and Thiru Gnana Sambandhar , the Vaishnavite poet answered fluently each of Thiru Gnana Sambandhar’s questions and let out 10 verses of praise in the name of Lord Vishnu.
Pleased and impressed with Mangai Mannan’s knowledge and the sweetness in his praise and description of the different forms of Lord Vishnu , a spell bound Thiru Gnana Sambandhar acknowledged the greatness of Thirumangai and crowned him as ” Mangai Azhvaar “. Sambandar was very happy and rewarded Alwar with his Vel which is given by Goddess Parvathi and also an anklet . Both of them hugged each other and bore good bye in a sad mood and paved way to the unity of Saivam and Vaishnavam. In the entrance of the gopuram

11 Divya Desams in and around Thiru Nangur near Seerkazhi.
Deities from each of the Thiru Nangur temples go out on a street procession on Garuda Vahanam and come together at Mani Mada Koil in Thai maasam (mid January)
Sthalapuranam
Angered at not being invited for the Yaagam conducted by Parvathi’s father Dakshan , Lord Shiva performed the Rudra Thaandavam (dance) in a place called Ubaya Cauvery (between Cauvery in the South and Mani River in the North) , a few kms South East of Seerkazhi .
So aggressive was his performance that for every hair that fell down on the ground, a new form of Lord Shiva emerged. And very quickly 11 forms of Lord Shiva were each performing the Rudra Thaandavam. Sensing a possible damage to the world as a result of Lord Shiva’s fury , Lord Vishnu appeared here before Shiva as Paramapatha Naathan .
Softened by the presence of Lord Vishnu , Rudra requested Vishnu appear in just as many forms . Lord Vishnu is said to have acceded to this request and provided darshan to Rudra in 11 different forms here in Thiru Nangur , having taken one form each from 11 different Divya Desams . These together constitue the 11 Divya Desams in and around Thiru Nangur.
In the Tamil calendar month of Thai (mid Jan-mid February), the deities from these Divya Desams go out on a street procession in the Garuda Vaahanam and congregate at the Mandapam in the Narayana Perumal Mani Maada Koil in Thirunangur. Thiruvalla is a town-cum-Taluk located in Pathanamthitta district. Previously this town was spelled as Tiruvalla. The town is famous for its various religious festivals, schools, institutions etc.
The temple is not very big and can be easily covered in about 45 minutes. The temple is built in the typical kerala divyadesam structure , with a conical roof over the main sanctum and a stone platform in front of the sanctum. There is a spacious, open pragharam around the main sanctum. The thayar here is Sri Selva thirukkozhundhu nachiyar , also known as vatsalya devi. There is a temple tank nearby. The Lord here is in a standing position and goes by the names of Kolappiran, Thiruvazhmarban and Sri Vallabhan . A unique feature of this temple is that there is a sannidhi for Sri Chakrathalwar behind the sannidhi of Lord Vishnu . It is not common to see a sannidhi for Sri Chakrathalwar in the Malainadu divyadesams.
Legend has it that, a female devotee by the name of Shankara Mangalathammai used to religiously observe a fast every ekadesi day and then serve food to a brahmachari on the next day. A demon called Tolakasuran started harassing her and began creating hurdles in her religious practice. Lord Vishnu appeared as a brahmachari and slew the demon. In compliance with the wish of His devotee, Lord Vishnu stayed at this place with Sri Mahalakshmi visible on His chest to bless all those who come to worship at this shrine. Hence the name Sri Vallabhan for the Lord.
Another legend associated with this sthethram is that of a person named Ghantakarna. He was instructed by Lord Shiva to worship Lord Sri Vishnu through the eight-syllabled ashtakshara manthra. To avoid hearing any extraneous noises, Ghantakarna tied a bell to each of his ears and worshipped Lord Sri Vishnu and secured His Grace. The theertham in this divya desam is called Ghantakarna theertham.
It is also believed that the idol of the Lord here was installed by the sage Sri Durvasa, and that the sage visits the temple every night to worship his Lord.
Thirukakara is one among the Malainadu divyadeshams it’s a Vamana Shethram .
This temple is Situated in Thrikkakara , Ernakulam district . Thrikkakara Temple is one of the few temples in India dedicated to Lord Vamana . The temple is also listed as one of the 108 Divyadesams . The traditional festival of Kerala , Onam is closely related with this temple . This temple is the place of origin for the Onam festival of Kerala . The temple is mentioned in many of the hymns sung by the Tamil Vaishnavite Alwars, particularly by Nammalvar. The temple is believed to be around two millennia old . The temple is believed to have established by Sage Parasurama . The sanctum sanctorum of the temple has the idol of Maha Vishnu in the form of Lord Vamana preparing to place his foot on the Asura King Mahabali. Surrounding the inner complex walls is a series of thousands of lamps called Chuttuvilakku. There are two ponds associated with the temple. One is the Kapilatheertham located closer to the temple on the Northern side of the sanctum and is accessible only to priests. The other pond is located on the Northern side outside the temple walls, and is used regularly during the Aaraattu ceremonial bath of the idol during Onam celebrations. . Small but well maintained Temple . Adjacent to this temple is a Lord Shiva temple and it’s called Mahadev temple . Thirumangai alwar has sung pasuram praising this Lord .

I was Cycling this morning and I noticed a person about half a km ahead.
I could guess he was Cycling a little slower than me and that made me feel good, I said to myself I will try catch up with him.
So I started Cycling faster and faster. Every block, I was gaining on him a little bit. After just a few minutes I was only about 100 feet behind him, so I really picked up the pace and pushed myself. I was determined to catch up with him.
Finally, I did it! I caught up and passed him. Inwardly I felt very good. “I beat him”.
Of course, he didn’t even know we were racing.
After I passed him, I realized I had been so focused on competing against him that *I had missed my turn to my house* .
I had missed the focus on my inner peace, I missed to see the beauty of greenery around, I missed to do my inner soul searching meditation, and in the needless hurry feet slipped from the paddle twice or thrice and might have hit the sidewalk and broken a limb.
It then dawned on me, isn’t that what happens in life when we focus on competing with co-workers, neighbours, friends, family, trying to outdo them or trying to prove that we are more successful or more important and in the bargain we miss on our happiness within our own surroundings?
We spend our time and energy running after them and we miss out on our own paths to our given destination.
The problem with unhealthy competition is that it’s a never ending cycle.
There will always be somebody ahead of you, someone with a better job, nicer car, more money in the bank, more education, a prettier wife, a more handsome husband, better behaved children, better circumstances and better conditions etc.
But one important realisation is that *’You can be the best that you can be, when you are not competing with anyone.’*
Some people are insecure because they pay too much attention to what others are, where others are going, wearing and driving, what others are talking.
*Take whatever you have*, the height, the weight and personality. Accept it and realize, that you are blessed. Stay focused and live a healthy life.
*There is no competition in Destiny. Each has his own.*
Comparison AND Competition is the thief of JOY. It kills the Joy of Living your Own Life.
*Run your own Race that leads to Peaceful, Happy Steady Life.*
The Padmanabha Swamy Temple is situated at a prime location, it is located at a distance of 2 km at most from the main market of Trivandrum . There are many auto-rickshaws available throughout the day to take you to the premises of the temple.
Legend Of Sri Anantha Padmanabhaswamy Temple
Skanda Purana and Padma Purana have extolled the sanctity of Sri Anantha Padmanabhaswamy Temple shrine. Reference is found in Bhagavatha Purana (holy scripture on Vishnus Dashaavatar) to Balaramas pilgrimage to this place, then known as Sayanandoorapuram.
Sayana refers to the reclining posture of the Lord. Sri Anantha Padmanabha had given darshan to many rishis like Divakara Muni and Bilvamangalam Swami in the forest, once known as Ananthan Kaadu. The story goes like this:
Divakara Muni was a pious sadhu of the Tulu community. Once when he was doing puja, a little boy entered his room and started playing with him. The sage was so attracted by the boy that he wanted to keep him. The boy agreed on the condition that he should not be scolded under any circumstances. The boy used to play with puja items and indulge in mischief. One day he playfully put the Saligrama in his mouth. This angered the sage and he chided the boy. In no time the boy disappeared saying “if you want to see me again, come to Ananthan Kaadu. Divakara Muni realised that it was Lord Krishna who had come to him in the guise of the boy. The sage went in search of Him. He found the boy, but he disappeared into a huge Iluppa tree. The tree fell down in the form of Lord Vishnu in Ananthasayanam posture.
According to legend, this colossal divine form was several miles long stretching from Thiruvallam to Thiruppapur. This same form was taken to the present temple and was being worshipped till the time of Marthanda Varma. During his reign, the king renovated the sanctum and reinstalled a new image, made out 1,200 Saligramas with a special mixture. A poor Ezhava couple had darshan of the Lord as a small child, who had gruel from their hands. Justifying this legend, even today, the rice Neivedyam is offered to the Lord in a coconut shell, made of gold.
The visitors are expected to enter the premises of the temple barefoot not even socks .
A particular dress code needs to be followed by the pilgrims.
Only the Hindus can visit this temple.
You are not allowed to carry mobile phones, tablets, laptops, cameras or any other electronic gadgets.
Photography is strictly prohibited within the premises of the temple.
We were lucky to have the Vishwaroopa dharshan in the early morning
As photography is prohibited this pic I took in the hotel we stayed
There are 13 temples in malainadu (kerala) considered as divyadeshams. We went on a trip last year August 2nd week (2019) .
There are five ancient shrines in the Chengannur area of Kerala, connected with the legend of Mahabharata. Legend has it that the Pandava princes, after crowning Parikshit as king of Hastinapura left on a pilgrimage. On arriving on the banks of river Pamba, each one is believed to have installed a tutelary image of Krishna .
During Mahabharata war, Yudhishthira, the head of the Pandavas, who never before uttered a lie, lied in one instant to defeat his Guru, Dronacharya. To overcome the sin of the lie, he underwent penace worshipping the lord here. Imayavar(Devas) came to this place prior to Yudhishthira and hence the deity here is referred as Imayavarappar.
Thirupuliyur
ThirupuliyurBheeman Gadham
ThiruPuliyur This temple dedicated to Vishnu and located in Puliyoor, Alappuzha District, Kerala, South India , constructed in kerala type of architecture . During Mahabharata war, Bhima underwent penace worshipping the lord here. Bheema was the powerful among the five brothers and this temple is large indicating his largness. Also the Gatha, the weapon used by Bheema is believed to be present in the temple. Nammalwar has sung praising this Lord .
Thiruvaranmula
ThiruvaranmulaInside the temple
Thiruvaranmula Here the presiding deity is Lord Vishnu as Parthasarathy as he gave gita upadesham during Mahabharath war to Arjuna . Lord Krishna presiding here in the Vishvarupa form is considered as “Annadana Prabhu” (The Lord who provides food) along with other temples like Vaikom Mahadeva Temple and Sabarimala. It is believed that those whose Annaprashana is performed at the Aranmula Parthasarathy temple would never be affected by the pangs of poverty throughout their lives .
Thiruvanvandoor
Thiruvanvandoor entrancePampanayappan temple
Thiruvanvandoor This temple was built by Nakula .The famous Pamba river is near the temple and hence the name of the deity is Paambanaiappan. As per another legend, the temple is believed to be consecrated by sage Bhrigu. The temple is counted as one of the five temples built and worshipped by Pandavas from Mahabharatha.
Thirukodithanam

Thirukodithanam The Divya Kshetram was built by Sahadeva of Pandavas. King Rukmangatha of Surya Vamsa undertook Ekadasi Vratham and gifted all his punyas to Devas by which he reached Devaloka. There are also shrines for Krishna and Narasimha. Another legend is that temple servant being cursed by the deity to turn into a stone as he delayed the opening of the temple doors making the devotees to wait for Darshan. The statue of the servant can be seen in front of the temple. A monthly Sravana Deepams (festival of light) is performed . Nammalwar has sung praising this Lord .
This temple is one among the 13 malainadu divyadeshams .The Lord is named as Adi Kesava Swamy .
Legend says that Lord Adi Kesava Swamy defeated the demon Kesi. The demon’s wife prayed to the River Ganges and to River Thamirabarani and created a destruction . But it was in vain and she surrendered to the Lord. Thus, the formation of the rivers made in a circle came to be known as Thiruvattaru .
Located about 30kms from Nagercoil off Marthandam near the Kerala – Tamil Nadu border and one of the 13 Malai Naatu Divya Desams is the Adi Kesava Perumal Koil. This is one of the oldest temples in this region.
Though this Divya Desam is located in Tamil Nadu, there are no big temple towers that are typical of Divya Desams in Tamil Nadu. The temple has been built in typical Kerala style on a 3 acre land. All poojas are in Kerala style – Thaanthriga Vithi and the priest is from Kerala as well.
One has to climb 18 steps to reach the Adi Kesavan Sannidhi, where the 22 feet Lord, made out of 16008 Saligramams, is seen in a West facing Bhujanga Sayanam (seen sleeping in the opposite direction –Head in the South, Feet in the North).
This Maaru Sayanam of Lord sleeping from right to left is also seen in Thiruvekka in Kanchipuram .One has to climb 18 steps to reach the Adi Kesavan Sannidhi, where the 22 feet Lord, made out of 16008 Saligramams, is seen in a West facing Bhujanga Sayanam (seen sleeping in the opposite direction –Head in the South, Feet in the North).
This Maaru Sayanam of Lord sleeping from right to left is also seen in Thiruvekka .See link
The temple is older than Anantha Padmanabha Swamy temple in Trivandrum (about 50kms from here). Adi Kesava Perumal is said to be the elder brother of Anantha Padmanabhan and hence, this place is referred to as Aadhi Ananthapuram. This temple is also known as Chera Naadu Srirangam .

There are several interesting stories relating to this Divya Desam.
1 . Lord Vishnu appears as Rama providing darshan to New Lankan King Vibheeshana, after attending the Ramar Pattabhishekam in Ayodhya, came to Srirangam where he had to let go the idol of Lord Ranganatha on the Cauvery river banks. On his way back to Lanka from Srirangam, with his thoughts centred around Rama, he is said have visited this place and offered his prayers here.
When the Lord appeared before him and asked for a wish, Vibheeshana wanted to see Rama once again. It is believed that Lord Vishnu provided darshan to Vibheeshana as Rama. Hence, one finds Rama, Sita and Lakshmana to the right of the moolavar deity here.
2 . Birth place of NammAzhvaar’s mother Thiruvanparisaram is the birth place of Udaya Nangai . There is a small temple of Udaya Nangai near this tempke . She was married to a man from Kurugur. Being childless, she undertook a 41 day penance here as instructed the Thirukurungudi Lord Nambi. As a result of this penance, Nammalwar was born to them. However, immediately after his birth, he sat under the Tamarind tree in (Alwar)Thirunagari and remained speechless for several years .
3 . Rishis directed to Parisaram Wanting the darshan of Lord Vishnu, Saptha Rishis undertook penance near Suchindram. They were re-directed to undertake further penance about 10kms North West of Suchindram. It is believed that Lord Vishnu provided darshan to these seven rishis at Thiruvanparisaram.
4 . The Name- Thiruvazhmarban After the killing of Asura Hiranyan, Lord Narasimha was in an angry mood. Lakshmi is said to have undertaken penance here to cool down the Lord. As per the request of Prahalad, Lord came here searching for Lakshmi. Happy to find her Lord again and in a cool form as a Shantha Swaroopi, Lakshmi is said to have requested the Lord to provide her a place in his heart which the Lord readily accepted.
As Lakshmi resides in the chest of the Lord at this temple, he came to be called Thiru Vazh Marban.
Presentation of Ramayana Acceding to the request of Anjaneya, Sage Agasthya is said to have presented the entire story of Ramayana at this place for the benefit of the devotees. In memory of this event, one sees Anjaneya with folded hands addressing Sage Agasthya, who is in a seated posture opposite him. Also, seen in this sannidhi are Lankan King Vibheeshana and Kulasekara Azhvaar.
Nammalwar as a child Nammalwar , who was born after the 41 day penance of his mother at this place, is seen as a small child at this temple, to the left of Thiruvazhmarban. This is a special feature at this Divya Desam.
Thiruvanparisaram is the birth place of Udaya Nangai ( mother of Nammalwar)and near the temple is Her Thiruvarasu .
This temple is one among the 13 malainadu divyadeshams . The word “Thirumozhi” has been corrupted and called as Thirumoozhikalam .
Thirumoozhikkulam temple is located in between Angamaly in Ernakulam district and Mala in Thrissur district. Thirumoozhikkulam is one among the 32 Brahmin gramams in Kerala. This is the place where Hareetha muni the son of Vishwamithra worshipped Vishnu.
The mythology behind the name of this place goes like this. Hareetha Maharshi did penance and meditation on the banks of river Poorna(Periyar). Lord Mahavishnu got impressed by the dedication of the Maharshi and appeared before him on the beginning of the Kali yuga. Lord Vishnu gave some advices to Hareetha Maharshi to overcome the difficulties in Kali yuga. These advices are called “thiru mozhi” meaning sacred words. And there after this place got its name as “thirumozhi kalam” – kalam means place. Later Thirumozhikkalam became Thirumoozhikkulam. This shrine is associated with legends from the Ramayanam. Legend has it that while Bharata the brother of Rama and Lakshmana, came to invite Rama, then in exile, to take over the reins of the kingdom, an angry Lakshmana suspecting Bharata’s intentions intended to kill him; however, Bharata’s innocence was very soon revealed, and then the two of them offered worship together at Thirumoozhikkalam. Worship is offered to Rama, Sita and Hanuman at this spot acknowledging their presence. No music is played during worship services here, unlike other temples. The annual festival which falls in the malayalam month of Makaram used to be an occasion of great festivity, with performances of koothu and Koodiyaattam for a 41 day period in the temple Koothambalam.
There are idols of Shiva as Dakshinamoorthi(south side) Ganapati, Sree Rama, Seetha, Hanuman Ayyappa, Sree Krishna (as goshala Krishnan) and Bhagavathy in this temple. There is an order in visiting the deities of this temple. Which is described below, enter through the eastern gate and first visit and pray to the main deity Lakshmana, after praying there then visit Ganapathy, Shiva and other deities then come back to Lakshmana to offer a second prayer after the pradikshana visit Ayyappa and Bhagavathy and then Krishna, and final visit to Lakshmana’s steps to offer prayers before returning.
Nammalwar and Thirumangai alwar has sung praising this Lord .
With these we ended our malainadu divyadeshams tour due to heavy rainfall and floods during last year(2019) August . Will update Thirunavaya and Thiruvidvacode after my visit , hoping to see within this year 2020 .
Mother is flying a kite. Her son is watching her carefully.
After some time son says “mom. Because of the string the kite is not able to go any further higher.
“Hearing this, the mother smiles and breaks the string. The kite goes higher and then shortly after that, it comes and falls on the ground.
The child is very dejected and sad.
The mother sits next to him and calmly explains: “Son, in life we reach a certain level and then we feel that there are certain things that are not letting us grow any further like Home, Family, Friends, Culture etc.
We feel we want to be free from those strings which we believe are stopping us from going higher.
But, remember son.”That our home , family, friends and culture are the things that will help us stay stable at the high heights .
If we try to break away from those strings our condition will be similar to the kite.”we’ll fall down soon..
*Moral:* *”Never go away from Home Culture, Family, Friends and Relationships as they help keep us stable while we are flying high…”*

Sri Parthasarathy Temple (Divya Desam) This is one of the 108 Divya desams. The name of the place came from the term – Allikkeni , meaning the temple tank of Alli flowers called Kairavinisaras. Per Legend, Thiruvengadamudayan gave dharshan as Krishnan to Chola king Sumathirajan per his request and so the deity is called Venkatakrishnan and the vigraha was installed by Attreya maharishi . The main deity is in the form of charioteer and so has a big moustache and the whole family of Krishnar – consort Rukmani , elder brother Balaramar , younger brother Satyaki , son Pradhyumna and grandson Anirudha are present in main shrine which can not be seen anywhere else. Since Krishnar promised not to take any weapons in His hands during the Mahabharatha war , He is seen here with Sangu only ( without the Chakra ) . The Utsava vigraham bears scars supposed to be from the arrows of Bheeshmar , when he was the charioteer to Arjuna in the Mahabharatha war .
The special significance of the temple being that the perumals of the 5 divya desams – Thirupathi Venkatesa Perumal , Srirangam Ranganathar , Kancheepuram Varadarajar , Ahobilam Narasimhar and Ayodhi Ramar – are present in separate shrines . Sri Neervannaperumal Temple, Thiruneermalai is one among the 108 Divyadesams found in Chennai near Tambaram (Thondai Nadu).
In this Sthalam, the Perumal is found in various positions as Nindraan, Irunthaan, Kidanthaan and Nadanthaan Thirukkolam.
This Sthalam is situated in Tamil Nadu, Chengulpet District. We can reach the temple by travelling around 4 Kms from Pallavaram Railway Station, which is about 7 Kms from Chennai.
This Thiruneermalai Kshetram is also called as “Thoyagiri Kshetram” and also as “Thothadri”. Thoya means “Water” and Adhiri means “Mountain” (malai). Since the mountain is surrounded by water, this sthalam is named as “Thiru Neermalai”.
Specials :
The Perumal shows his 4 sevas in this temple (ie) – Nindra, Iruntha, Kidantha and Nadantha Thirukkolmas.
It is said that once Thirumangai Alwar came here to get the Dharshan of the Perumal. At that time, the mountain was fully surrounded by water and he waited for six months to worship the Perumal. After all the water drained, he went up the mountain and worshipped the Perumal. The place where Thirumangai Alwar stayed is called as “Thiru Mangai Alwarpuram”.
Moolavar and Thaayar:
The Perumal gives his seva in four different positions.
Sri Neervannar – Nindra Thirukkolam.
Lord Narasimhar – Irundha Thirukkolam.
Lord Ranganathar – Kidantha Thirukkolam.
Lord Thiruvikraman – Nadantha Thirukkolam.
The Neervannar is found in Nindra (standing) thirukkolam facing his Thirumugham towards East direction. He is also named as Neelamugil Vannan. Prathyaksham (seva) for Thondaimaan, Brighu Munivar and Maarkandeyar.
Lord Ranganathar is found in Kidantha (lying) position facing his thirumugham towards South direction and the Sayana kolam is referred to as “Manicka Sayanam”. He is lying on the Aadhiseshan under Ranga Vimaanam.
Thaayar The Thayaar of this sthalam is Sri Animaa Malar Mangai and found in a separate Sannadhi.
Adivaram temple is Neervannar in nindra kolam . One has to climb about 210 steps to Malai koil to see iruntha , kidantha , nadantha kolam of the Lord . According to Thirumangai Alwar, Thiruneer Malai is referred to:
Thirukoviloor – Ulagalanthaan (ThiruVikrama kolam) Thus, in Thiruneermalai Divyadesam, we can see all the four forms of the Perumal together. In this temple, Muni Valmiki worshipped Eari Kidantha (Aranganathan), Iruntha (Narasimar), Nadantha (Thiruvikraman) Kola seva of the Perumal. After worshipping all the 3 sevas, he came down from the mountain to worship Lord Rama. Knowing this Lord Vishnu gave darshan as Sri Ramar and Lakshmi Piratti as Seetha and Aadisesha as Lakshman and Sangu and Chakram as Baratha chatrukanan. Lord Vigneshwar as Sugreev and Garudan as Hanuman.

Thiru Ninravur(திருநின்றவூர்)- Sri Bakthavatsala Perumal Sri Baktavatsala Perumal temple is in the suburbs of Chennai, in a small town called Thiruninravur. It is one among the 108 divyadesams. The place derives its name from Goddess Mahalakshmi – Thiru means Lakshmi and Ninravur is the place where she stands forever. The moolavar of this temple is Sri Baktavatsala Perumal and the Goddess lakshmi here is known as ‘Ennai Petra Thayar’
According to the legend, Lord Samudrarajan (King of the Ocean) was longing for a child and his desire was that Goddess Mahalakshmi should be born as his daughter. He prayed to her for many years after which the Goddess appeared before him and granted his wish. One day, he found a beautiful girl child in the middle of a lotus flower in the ocean. Thanking the Goddess Lakshmi he exclaimed ” Ennai Petra Thaaye” (Mother who gave birth to me ) naming the child as Ennai Petra Thaayar.
The little girl grew up into a beautiful young lady and it was time to get her married. But Samudrarajan was not willing to part with his daughter whom he had got after praying for so many years and so when Lord Narayanan came asking for her hand in marriage, he laid a condition that he should stay with them in their house for which the Lord agreed.
The seven feet Bhaktavatsala perumal in Kalyana Thirukolam (wedding attire), and with the words ” Maam Ekam Charanam Vraja” (Take refuge in me alone) written on his right hand (only other place you can see this is in the hand of Uppiliappan in Kumbakonam), is a scintillating sight to watch.
In front of the moolavar is the utsavar (procession deity) called Patharaavi and is accompanied by two consorts Sridevi and Bhoodevi. There is a separate sannidhi for Ennai Petra Thayar also called Sudhavalli. The temple also has separate sannidhis for Andal, Chakkarathazhwar, the Alwars and Sri Ramanuja.
Thiruninravur Temple The temple was built during the Pallava era, and is estimated to be 1500 years old. The temple has a 5 tier gopuram at the entrance.
There is a separate sannidhi for Ennai Petra Thayar also called Sudhavalli, the consort of Lord Bakthavasala. On the banks of a lake a few meters behind this temple is another temple for Lord Rama. In this temple there is a beautiful statue of Hanuman lifting Rama and Lakshmana on his shoulders. The temple is administered by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments department of Tamil Nadu government. H.H Pedda Jeeyar of Tirupathi is the permanent trustee of the temple.
Inside the praharam When Tirumangai Alwar came to Tiruninravur he did not sing any paasuram about Bhakthavatsala perumal here in this place. As per the legend , when Thirumangai Alwar came here to get the darshan of the Perumal , Lord did not notice him , as He was talking with Periya Pirattiyaar. Annoyed at being ignored , Thirumangai Alwar just worshipped him without doing Mangalasasanam . He then went to Tirukkadalmallai (Mamallapuram) to worship Sthalasayana Perumal. Bhakthavatsala , anxious for his devotee to sing about him , followed him and appeared to the Azhwar in Tirukkadalmallai as Bhakthavatsala Perumal and it is there that the pasuram about Tiruninravur was sung.
Lakshmi Pooja yantra
Lakshmi Pooja As the name suggests , this is the temple for wealth , prosperity and all the wealth in the world . There is a nine squared matrix drawn in front of the Ennai Petra Thaayar Sannathi as shown in the picture , which has specific numbers . By repicating this matrix in your pooja room and placing one rupee coins ( or any coins such as quarters if you are out of India ) on each of the squares, and praying for nine days , it is proven that once prayers and wishes are granted.
The pooja can be performed by drawing the Yantra in the pooja room on a flat surface using white kolam powder or with the card that is sold in the temple. Pooja should be done for nine days by placing one rupee coins ( any coins of same denominations) in each of the boxes, applying sandal paste,Kumkum and flowers on the the matrix and reciting the Lakshmi ashtotram. The coins of the previous day are then removed and stored safely and new set of coins are used the next day. After completing nine days of pooja the 81 coins along with thambulam for nine sumangalis are taken to the temple. The temple priest places the coins at the Thaayaar’s feet and performs archana. The first Thambulam is then offerred to the Goddess. After that, he gives the coins back to the devotee who then deposits the coins in the Hundi outside the shrine. The remaining thambulams are given to other women in the temple.
It is preferrable to start the pooja on Friday. If the Friday happens to be a Full moon day, it still more auspicious.
Temple locationThiru Nindravur,( Chennai suburb) Tiruvellore District
How to reach? Going along the Poonamalli High road from Chennai take right turn towards Thiruvallur. It is around 4 kms on that road. Alternatively you can also take MTH road leading to Chennai – Tirutani highway. There is a flyover connecting towards the temple as you approach the Tiruninravur town.
Other interesting places around Tiruninravur Hridayaleeswarar Temple dating back to the 6th century is nearby. As also the temple of Eri Katha Ramar is very nearby .

This temple is about 55 kms from Chennai in Mahabalipuram. This temple is one among the 22 Thondanadu divyadeshams .
It is a small temple with 2 major shrines Lord Sthala sayana Perumal and Goddess Nilamangai Thayar .There is a seperate shrine for Lord Narasimhar also .
It is the avatara sthalam of Boodathalwar . Both Boodathalwar and Thirumangai alwar has sung praising this Lord .
It is believed as most of the temples in Mahabalipuram has been submerged in sea , this temple is built within the city .
Sthalapuranam : Once Pundarika Maharishi collected 1000 lotuses from a pond and he desired to dedicate these lotuses on to the feet of Lord Vishnu on the way he tried to drained out the ocean water with his hands and became tired and prayed to Lord Vishnu without knowing how to reach him . Lord Vishnu disguised as a old man comes and says he is hungry , keeping the lotus aside Pundarika Maharishi goes to fetch food for the old man . On his arrival with food he sees the ocean drained out Lord Vishnu in reclining position wearing the lotuses as a garland . The rishi now realizes that it was the Lord himself came to give him a divine dharshan and asks to bless him falling on his feet . As the Lord is on reclining position on land this place is called Sthala sayana Perumal .
It is believed those having property disputes or any litigations on their lands will be relieved from these problems if they worship this Lord Sthala sayana Perumal .

It’s one of the thondanadu divyadeshams. This temple is 75 kms from chennai on the chennai ‐ vellore highway . The Lord Vishnu here is known as Vijaya raghava Perumal .Thirumangai alwar has sung song on this Perumal.
It’s a Jatayu moksha sthalam.
Sthalapuranam When Rama and Lakshmana were searching for Seetha after Seetha was abducted by Ravana the Jatayu (a huge eagle ) fought against Ravana to rescue Seetha . Ravana cut the Jatayu’s wings and he fell down . When Rama came to this place Jatayu tells him that Seetha has been abducted by the Lanka King Ravana and pleads Lord Rama to do his final rituals and dies . Lord Rama having Jatayu on his lap agrees to do his final rituals hence this place is known as Jatayu moksha sthalam . As there was no water to do the final rituals Lord Rama with his arrow created a spring , its known as Jatayu pushkarini . Thiru denotes honour pul means bird pit means kuzhi thus this place got the name Thiruputkuzhi .
During the final rituals of Jatayu on his left of Lord Rama with Goddess Lakshmi on his right lit the pyre Goddess Lakshmi couldnot bear the heat of agni so comes to left side of the Lord and Andal to the right . So here Andal is on right and Thayar is on left .
The Thayar name is Maragathavalli thayar . Married ladies wanting for a child boon take bath in the Jatayu pushkarini and worship Maragathavalli thayar the priest here gives them roasted pulses which they tie in their saree and sleep over . Morning if the pulses are sprouted it’s a significant of having child boon soon .
On new moon day people come here to give tharpanam .
